The Innkeeper

AM Psalm 63:1-8(9-11), 98; PM Psalm 103
Amos 9:11-15; 2 Thess. 2:1-3,13-17; John 5:30-47

When I am pressed for something to do as a Christmas Devotion, I can always depend on this incredible poem by John Piper to draw in any audience.

Piper creates a conversation between Jesus and the Innkeeper who gave his family shelter on that first Christmas. A powerful and wonderfully creative piece.

One Response to “The Innkeeper”

  1. I love The Innkeeper and I too have pulled it out to wow hearers at Christmas-time. Piper is a fine poet.

I am quite intrigued that the innkeeper in the poem found quite a strong physical resemblance between Joseph and Jesus (“you look a lot like him”). I wonder what Piper was thinking there?
