Come again, Advent

Master, come.

You told us you would not leave us forever,
and you have made us to believe you.
Even then our waiting is in agony
and our strength ebbs quickly away.

Once you came to us and showed us
your great love and watchcare;
We have not doubted you since then,
yet still our hearts have strayed.

Your Comforter has sustained us,
and continually leads us to your cross;
yet injustice still roams the earth,
entangling us, knocking us in the dust.

Surely you tarry for the world’s sake;
surely your reasons are good and just.
Surely our weak flesh will not fail utterly
before you have worked all your purposes.

Yet we long for you.
Our hearts burn within us.

Come, Master. Come.
